Cowboys' Ronald Jones: Cites health issues for suspension
Jones said Tuesday that his performance-enhancing drugs violation was due to heart medication he's been taking since he entered the league, and that the NFL rejected an appeal of his two-game suspension, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. "We tried to appeal. I asked for a re-test, sample my blood, my health concerns and they didn't really look at it," Jones said. "My family suffers from heart disease. I just want to clear my name in terms of I'm not cheating the game of football. It's literally a prescription medicine."
Jones will still be able to practice with the Cowboys during training camp and the preseason ahead of missing the first two weeks of the regular season, but Malik Davis is now expected to get the first crack at securing the No. 2 spot on the backfield depth chart behind Tony Pollard.

Cowboys' Ronald Jones: Suspended for violating PED policy
The NFL suspended Jones on Monday for the first two games of the 2023 regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance enchancing substances, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Jones still will be eligible to participate in training camp and preseason games, but the Cowboys presumably won't give him as many looks in practice if he isn't going to be part of the game plan to begin the regular season. If that's the case, Malik Davis, who signed with Dallas as a UDFA last year, rookie sixth-round pick Deuce Vaughn and third-year back Rico Dowdle, who mainly played special teams last season, would be candidates for increased snaps behind Tony Pollard during Jones' absence.

Cowboys' Ronald Jones: Suspended for two games
Jones has been suspended for the first two games of the 2023 regular season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
It's unclear why Jones was suspended or who suspended him between the NFL and the Cowboys, but either way, he won't be eligible to play until Week 3. This should open up more snaps for Malik Davis and rookie Deuce Vaughn, who are both vying for a backup job behind Tony Pollard.
