  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Launches fifth homer

Turang went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Turang extended Milwaukee's lead to 8-1 with a three-run homer off Mitch Keller in the fifth inning. It's Turang's fifth long ball of the year and just his second in his last 50 games. While he hasn't provided frequent power, the rookie infielder has been swinging the bat well, going 9-for-20 (.450) over his previous six games. Overall, Turang is slashing .221/.289/.333 with 27 runs scored, 25 RBI and 12 stolen bases across 284 plate appearances this season.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Homers, drives in five

Frelick went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, five RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 14-1 win over the Pirates.

Frelick got the Brewers on the board in the first inning with a two-run double before blasting a three-run homer off Jose Hernandez in the sixth, extending the lead to 11-1. Frelick had cooled off after a fast start to his MLB career, going 0-for-14 in his previous five games. Overall, the rookie outfielder is 9-for-33 (.273) with a pair of homers, 11 runs scored and nine RBI across his first 46 plate appearances while drawing nearly twice as many walks (11) as strikeouts (6).

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Picks up fourth win

Houser (4-3) earned the win Thursday, allowing a run on four hits and two walks over six innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out five.

Houser allowed a lone run in the first inning before blanking the Pirates over his final five frames. The Brewers' offense would provide more than enough run support in a 14-1 victory. It was an impressive bounce-back effort from Houser after he allowed six runs over four innings in his last outing against Atlanta. The 30-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 4.19 with a 1.52 WHIP and 57:25 K:BB across 13 starts (73 innings) this season. Houser's currently in line to face the Rockies at home in his next start.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Cleared to return Sunday

Woodruff (shoulder) is scheduled to return to the Brewers' rotation Sunday against the Pirates, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Woodruff posted an encouraging 3.09 ERA and 11:2 K:BB over 11.2 innings during his three-start minor league rehab assignment between High-A Wisconsin and Triple-A Nashville. He got up to 72 pitches Tuesday in his final outing on the farm and might be able to approach 85-to-90 pitches in his return to Milwaukee. The 30-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since mid-April because of a Grade 2 subscapular strain.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Returns to lineup Thursday

Frelick (leg) is back in the lineup Thursday versus the Pirates.

Frelick collided with the outfield wall Tuesday in Washington and was on the bench for Wednesday's series finale, but he suffered only a minor leg bruise and is good to go heading into the Brewers' four-game set against Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old will start in right field and bat fifth Thursday at American Family Field.

  • Brewers' Abraham Toro: Returns to Triple-A

Toro was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The 26-year-old was recalled from Nashville last week and appeared in three games while up with the big club, going 4-for-10 with a home run, a walk, four RBI and three runs. Toro could return to the majors later in the season when the Brewers need infield depth.

  • Brewers' Brian Anderson: Back from injured list

Anderson (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Anderson has been on the shelf nearly three weeks with a back strain, but he'll rejoin Milwaukee's active roster Thursday after completing a two-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville. The 30-year-old had a strong start to the campaign but has struggled to a .568 OPS since the beginning of June.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Optioned to Nashville

The Brewers optioned Megill to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Megill made only one appearance out of the Milwaukee bullpen during his five-day stay in the majors and gave up two earned runs on four hits in two innings. The 29-year-old right-hander owns a 5.84 ERA in 83 career appearances at the big-league level.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Homers in loss

Taylor went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

Taylor put the Brewers on the board with a solo home run off MacKenzie Gore in the top of the second and was later replaced by Sal Frelick in the seventh. It was just Taylor's third home run of the season, though two of those have come in his last four games. He's added four RBI over that stretch.

  • Brewers' Wade Miley: Allows one run over four frames

Miley did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over four innings against Washington. He struck out five.

Miley pitched well in his return from the injured list, with the only damage against him coming in the third inning when he allowed a leadoff double to Alex Call to open the frame, followed by an RBI single to Jake Alu. The left-hander then struck out three batters in the fourth inning before being relieved by Hoby Miner to open the fifth. Miley has allowed just one run over his last 10 innings of work to go along with a 13:5 K:BB.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Banged up, but X-rays negative

Frelick's absence from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals may be a result of him getting bruised up in a collision with the outfield wall in Tuesday's 6-4 win, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Frelick collided with the wall in the bottom of the seventh, when he unsuccessfully tried to flag down a Corey Dickerson fly ball that resulted in a triple. He was able to stay in the game and finished the night with no hits and a walk over four plate appearances. Frelick was walking with a limp in the outfield after the play in question, but he told McCalvy that he underwent X-rays that returned negative and is just dealing with some bruising. The rookie looks to be day-to-day and could be ready to return to the lineup for Thursday's series opener with the Pirates.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Sits against lefty

Frelick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

With lefty MacKenzie Gore on the hill for Washington, the lefty-hitting Frelick will head to the bench after starting in each of the Brewers' last six games. He went hitless in the last four of those contests, bringing his batting average down to .241 through his first 10 games with Milwaukee. Tyrone Taylor will check in for Frelick in right field.

  • Brewers' Abraham Toro: Remains on bench Wednesday

Toro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Toro closed the past week by making three starts in four games, but he failed to crack the lineup at any point during the three-game set in Washington. The Brewers' recent acquisition of Mark Canha appears to have closed the door on Toro gaining meaningful playing time.

  • Brewers' Owen Miller: Banished to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Miller to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Miller's demotion comes after he was on the bench for each of the past six games after losing hold of an everyday role following the Brewers' acquisition of Carlos Santana. The 26-year-old had been one of Milwaukee's better hitters over the first two months of the season, but he struggled mightily in July, slashing .178/.212/.247 on the month. He'll look to get back on track while playing regularly in Nashville and could end up settling into a short-side platoon role for the Brewers if he's brought back later in the season.

  • Brewers' Wade Miley: Makes return from IL

The Brewers reinstated Miley (elbow) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Washington.

Milwaukee reopened a spot in its rotation for Miley a few days earlier, when the team placed Julio Teheran (hip) on the 15-day IL. Miley ended up missing just over the minimum 15 days due to left elbow discomfort, but he appears to have responded well to a platelet-rich plasma injection and didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being activated. Miley should be in store for close to a normal workload as he makes his 14th start of the season Wednesday.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Provides offense in win

Turang went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBI and two runs in Tuesday's 6-4 win against the Nationals.

Turang still has just one extra-base hit in his past eight games, but he delivered plenty of value on his two singles. It's just the fifth occasion this season the 23-year-old has collected multiple RBI in a game and just the fourth time he's scored multiple runs. Turang has come alive at the plate over the past week, having gone 7-for-19 with a double, two walks and two runs in addition to Tuesday's run production.
