  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Officially placed on 15-day IL

McClanahan was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left forearm tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

In a short statement to reporters, the Rays said only that they are "in the process of gathering further information and updates will be provided when available." This all sounds ominous after McClanahan was pulled from his start Wednesday against the Yankees due to forearm discomfort, shortly after he surrendered five earned runs on a double, two singles and two homers in the bottom of the third inning. Topkin reported previously that the 26-year-old ace is headed for "additional imaging" and "additional opinions" on his left arm.

  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Headed to injured list

McClanahan (forearm) will be placed on the 15-day injured list, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

McClanahan was lifted from his start Wednesday against the Yankees after experiencing left forearm tightness in the bottom of the fourth inning. There is no exact diagnosis yet, but the 26-year-old ace is headed for imaging scans and is expected to seek out multiple opinions in an effort to get to the root of the issue. He'll be sidelined through at least mid-August, and perhaps far longer. More should be known in the coming days.

  • Rays' Wander Franco: Power surge continues

Franco went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Yankees.

The shortstop took Gerrit Cole deep in the first inning, but it was all the offense the Rays could muster. Franco has now homered three times in the last five games while hitting safely in six straight, batting .348 (8-for-23) over that stretch with a steal, four RBI, seven runs and a 4:2 BB:K as he shows signs of recapturing his blistering early-season form.

  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Battling forearm tightness

McClanahan experienced tightness in his left forearm during Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The issue arose when the southpaw was warming up ahead of the fourth, following a third inning that saw him cough up five runs on homers by Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton. McClanahan will head back to Tampa on Thursday to be checked out by the team doctor, at which point more details regarding the severity of his injury will be available. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the time being, but the Rays will be holding their breath that the team's ace isn't facing a lengthy absence.

  • Rays' Luke Raley: Has bruised knee

Raley exited Wednesday's game against the Yankees with a right knee contusion, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Raley was forced out of the Rays' game Wednesday after fouling a ball off his right knee during the fourth inning, but he was fortunate to avoid serious damage. Tampa Bay has an off day Thursday which will give Raley extra time to heal, but it's possible he still misses a game or two.

  • Rays' Luke Raley: Exits early Wednesday

Raley was removed from Wednesday's game against the Yankees with an apparent knee injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Raley fouled a ball off his right knee during his during the fourth inning. He was able to finish the at-bat but was replaced in left field by Josh Lowe. The Rays will take a look at Raley and should provide more updates relatively soon, but he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: On bench amid slump

Bethancourt is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.

Rene Pinto will start at catcher for the Rays and bat ninth. Bethancourt has gone 1-for-21 (.048) over his last nine games and is slashing just .130/.200/.152 in 50 plate appearances since the beginning of July.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Sits amid slump

Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Manuel Margot will cover center field and bat seventh as the Rays take on ace right-hander Gerrit Cole. Siri has gone 3-for-25 (.120) with one walk and 12 strikeouts over his last eight games, though he's enjoyed a breakout year overall for Tampa Bay.

  • Rays' Ryan Thompson: Sent back to Durham

Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

This move clears out a 26-man roster spot for Aaron Civale, who was acquired from the Guardians on Monday and is expected to make his Rays debut in a start this Saturday against the Tigers. Thompson did not make an appearance during his two-day stint in the Tampa Bay bullpen.

  • Rays' Randy Arozarena: Snaps hitless streak

Arozarena went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Tuesday against the Yankees.

Arozarena entered Tuesday hitless across his last 20 at-bats and six games. He snapped that stretch with a home run off Carlos Rodon in the third inning -- his 18th of the season. Arozarena has only eight knocks across 58 at-bats since the All-Star break, though he's striking out at just a 21.2 percent clip in that span.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Earns 14th save

Fairbanks picked up the save Tuesday against the Yankees, striking out one over one-third of an inning.

After Colin Poche allowed two runs in the ninth inning, Fairbanks came on to record the final out, striking out Giancarlo Stanton to earn his 14th save. The 29-year-old right-hander has converted his last 11 save opportunities, allowing just three runs over 16 innings in that span. Overall, Fairbanks sports a sparkling 1.80 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB across 25 innings this season.

  • Rays' Yandy Diaz: Homers in win

Diaz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Yankees.

Diaz has just three homers in his last 47 games after hitting 12 in his first 43 contests. Still, the 31-year-old first baseman has been productive with the bat, going 22-for-63 (.349) over his last 16 games. Diaz is now slashing .317/.402/.509 with 63 runs scored and 52 RBI across 396 plate appearances this season.

  • Rays' Zach Eflin: Blanks Yankees for 12th win

Eflin (12-6) earned the win Tuesday, allowing just three hits over six scoreless innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.

Eflin showed no ill effects Tuesday after departing his previous start with knee discomfort, firing six scoreless innings against New York to earn his 12th win, tying him for the major-league lead. It was certainly the type of effort the Rays needed from Eflin after he allowed five runs in two of his previous three starts. The 29-year-old right-hander now sports a 3.46 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and 121:17 K:BB across 21 starts (122.1 innings) this season. Eflin's currently lined up to face the Cardinals at home in his next outing.

  • Rays' Alex Jackson: Dealt to Tampa Bay

Jackson was traded from the Brewers to the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Evan McKendry, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

A 27-year-old catcher who has settled in as an emergency option, at least while with the Brewers, Jackson has been at Triple-A Nashville all season and is slashing .286/.360/.554 with 12 home runs in 45 games. At this point, Jackson doesn't look to be much more than a Quad-A hitter who's capable of defending his position.

  • Rays' Manuel Rodriguez: Dealt to Tampa Bay

The Cubs traded Rodriguez and Adrian Sampson to the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Josh Roberson, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Rodriguez looked like a promising young arm in the Cubs' system at one point, but he turns 27 years old this coming Sunday and has registered an underwhelming 4.42 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 38.2 innings of relief this season at Triple-A Iowa. He'll likely report to Triple-A Durham.

  • Rays' Adrian Sampson: Traded to Tampa Bay

The Cubs traded Sampson and Manuel Rodriguez to the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Josh Roberson, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Sampson has not pitched in the majors this season, primarily because of a right knee injury that required a cleanup procedure in May, but he registered a 3.11 ERA over 19 starts and two relief appearances for the Cubs during the 2022 campaign. The 31-year-old is healthy now and will presumably report to the Triple-A affiliate of the Rays in Durham.
