  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Records steal in loss

McLain went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs.

McLain swiped his ninth base of the season in the third inning but was stranded there, as the Reds went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The infielder has a combined 19 steals between Triple-A Louisville and the majors in 2023. He also struck out twice, raising his count to 15 over the last 34 plate appearances (44.1 K%).

  • Jake Fraley RF | CIN

Reds' Jake Fraley: Swipes base in loss

Fraley went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs.

Fraley walked and stole second in the first inning but was stranded there. The theft was Fraley's third in the last four games and 20th in 25 attempts over 92 games this season.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: Throws for Louisville

Antone (elbow) struck out one and threw 11 pitches in a perfect inning for Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Antone's rehab moved from the Arizona Complex League to Triple-A over the weekend, and the right-hander made his debut for the Bats. He's working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery and is tentatively targeted to return Aug. 19.

  • Corbin Carroll LF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Moved to leadoff

Carroll batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 1-0 loss to San Francisco.

Carroll batted leadoff for the first time this season, as Ketel Marte was held out of the starting lineup. It was a tweak to an offense that has struggled to score of late -- just 15 runs over the last seven games. Carroll did his part by getting on base twice and reaching scoring position following his stolen base, but the Diamondbacks extended their scoreless streak to 17 innings. The steal was Carroll's fifth in the last eight games and 34th of the season.

  • Tommy Pham LF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tommy Pham: Hitless in debut

Pham went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Giants.

Pham made his Arizona debut after being acquired from the Mets minutes before the trade deadline. He reported to the new team Thursday and was immediately placed in the lineup at DH and batted third. His addition adds another body to DH/OF mix that includes Corbin Carroll, Lourdes Gurriel, Jake McCarthy and Alek Thomas.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Belts first big-league homer

Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Though his eighth-inning solo shot didn't have much of an impact on the final score, it was certainly a big moment for Soderstrom since it was the first homer of his major-league career. In fact, it was the first extra-base hit of any sort for the rookie, who came into the contest with just eight singles over 47 plate appearances. Soderstrom has seen his playing time fluctuate but appears to be getting into a groove at the plate, as he's batting .300 (6-for-20) over his past six games.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Remains red-hot at dish

Freeman went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two doubles Thursday in an 8-2 win over Oakland.

Freeman racked up three extra-base hits in the contest, though the only one that produced a run was his solo homer in the eighth inning. The veteran first baseman has been on an absolute tear of late, collecting multiple hits in four straight games and going an incredible 12-for-17 with six extra-base hits, three RBI and five runs over that stretch. Freeman may not be getting the same amount of MVP buzz as his former teammate Ronald Acuna, but he's arguably in the running for the award given his impressive production this season. Freeman leads the NL in OPS (1.016), SLG (.598) and doubles (40), ranks second in batting average (.341), hits (146) and runs (94), and has added 22 homers, 76 RBI and 14 stolen bases through 107 games.

  • JP Sears SP | OAK

Athletics' JP Sears: Falls to 2-8

Sears (2-8) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over five innings.

Of the six hits Sears allowed, five went for extra bases, but the Dodgers managed to score just twice while he was in the game. Despite keeping Oakland in the contest, the left-hander got little run support and took his eighth loss of the season. Sears has been better than his record indicates-- his 4.07 ERA is far from disastrous, and he's posted seven quality starts across 22 outings -- but such is the fate of a starting pitcher on one of the league's worst offensive teams. Wins aren't likely to start coming in abundance for Sears, but he's not entirely off the fantasy radar, as he's provided some positive stats this season. For instance, his 1.08 WHIP ranks 10th among qualified MLB pitchers, ahead of more heralded hurlers such as Logan Webb, Zac Gallen and Spencer Strider.

  • Emmet Sheehan SP | LAD

Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Picks up first career save

Sheehan earned a save against the Athletics on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over four innings.

In Sheehan's first big-league appearance out of the bullpen, he piggybacked with starter Julio Urias, who was limited to five frames due to a recent fingernail issue. Sheehan gave up a pair of solo homers but kept Oakland at arm's length, tossing 56 pitches over the game's final four innings to record a save. The rookie right-hander worked as a starter for each of his first seven big-league appearances, but Thursday's outing may be a signal that he's no longer needed in that role with the Dodgers' recent acquisitions of Lance Lynn and Ryan Yarbrough and the looming return of Clayton Kershaw (shoulder).

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Notches win Thursday

Urias (8-6) earned the win over Oakland on Thursday, pitching five scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Urias was originally slated to start Tuesday in the series opener, but the outing was pushed back due to a split nail on his pitching hand. Per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, manager Dave Roberts indicated prior to the contest that he didn't expect the left-handed hurler to go more than five frames, and that's exactly how things played out with Urias departing after five innings despite having thrown just 68 pitches. Though that kept him from notching a quality start, it didn't prevent Urias from picking up a victory to improve to 8-6. Assuming he emerges from the outing without a setback, Urias should be able to go deeper in his next outing, which tentatively lines up to come in Arizona early next week.
