Bills' Kaiir Elam: In mix for starting job
Elam is in the running for the starting cornerback job opposite Tre'Davious White, Patrick Warren of the Bills' official site reports.
Defensive backs coach John Butler implied Tuesday that the job is a three-way race between Elam, Dane Jackson and Christian Benford, and all have mixed in with the first-team defense during the early portion of training camp. Butler had good things to say about Elam, the team's 2022 first-rounder out of Florida. Said the coach: "All those plays that he's made so far in this camp, whether it be in one-on-one situations, which he's done a nice job of in our individual one-on-ones or in team have been when he starts at the line of scrimmage, can contest the wideout, he can minimize the space and he's done a nice job of that so far." Elam has the most upside of the three players, though Jackson and Benford offer some things that Elam can't yet, so while Elam might be a slight favorite, this will be one of the team's bigger job battles throughout August.

Bills' Damar Hamlin: Important milestone
Hamlin participated in a full contact practice Monday for the first time since suffering cardiac arrest Jan. 2, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports."I'm just thankful," Hamlin said. "I'm just blessed to be able to do what I wanted to do as a kid again, at the highest level, after going through such a traumatic situation. To be able to come out here and compete again at the highest level in the world. That's such a blessing."
Hamlin has come all the way back from his life-threatening cardiac incident and is now able to sport full pads while tackling and doing everything else associated with full contact. While his return is inspiring, it's not clear where he fits in a deep Bills secondary now that star safety Micah Hyde is also healthy. This will be an important camp and preseason for Hamlin as he tries to lock down a meaningful reserve role on Buffalo's Week 1 roster.

Bills' Von Miller: Progressing well in recovery
Miller (knee) being ready for Week 1 is "definitely a possibility" according to general manager Brandon Beane.
Miller, who is on the active/PUP list, is in a "great spot" in his recovery, but as far as being ready for the start of the season, Beane stated the team is "not quite there" in knowing for sure. Instead, the Bills will err on the side of caution to make sure he is indeed fully recovered before letting him take the field. "We're going to take it slowly with him," Beane added, "and make sure he's truly ready to get back."
