  • Eagles' A.J. Brown: Strong start to training camp

Brown has made numerous impressive plays in the Eagles' first few training camp practices, EJ Smith of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Brown and Jalen Hurts are picking up where they left off after the star receiver produced 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season with the Eagles. The quarterback-receiver duo worked together in the offseason to further improve their chemistry, and that work seems to have paid off.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Improving connection with Brown

Hurts has looked impressive in training camp practices, most notably connecting on numerous standout throws to A.J. Brown, EJ Smith of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Hurts and Brown have been close friends since they were teenagers, so they naturally found chemistry quickly when Brown was traded to Philadelphia prior to last season. Now tasked with shaking off the disappointment of the 38-35 Super Bowl loss to Kansas City, Hurts is determined to lead the Eagles to even greater heights in 2023 while throwing to a talented group of pass catchers led by Brown, DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert.

  • Eagles' D'Andre Swift: Excelling in camp practices

Swift has made the strongest impression of any Eagles running back in training camp, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.com.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia apparently agrees, saying Thursday, "I think Swift is def[initely] RB1" for the Eagles. Other reports have Swift highly active as a pass catcher in training camp, though he's unlikely to be any more than the fourth option in an offense with WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and TE Dallas Goedert. A healthy, busy camp is a great sign for Swift, who nonetheless will need to fend off snap competition from Rashaad Penny, at the very least, and possibly from Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott and/or Trey Sermon as well.

  • Eagles' Marcus Mariota: Still learning offense

Mariota has gotten off to a slow start during training camp, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.

Mariota has thrown four interceptions in the first week of training camp. However, for the time being, that's being chalked up to him being on his third team in three seasons. According to teammate Boston Scott, "he's still learning the playbook, but he's a really smart guy. It's gonna take time, but you can see the tools for sure." Mariota will have plenty of time to adjust to the new offense and his role as Jalen Hurts' backup throughout the remainder of training camp and preseason.

  • Eagles' Nakobe Dean: Preparing for more significant role

Dean is adjusting to his new role as the starting middle linebacker, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Dean only played 33 snaps on defense last season, although he was a regular on the team's special-teams unit. Now in his second season and in the wake of the departures of T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White, Dean will see a significant shift in responsibilities. Not only will he see the field much more frequently, but he'll also be taking on play-calling duties as the MIKE linebacker in the Eagles' defense.

  • Eagles' Quez Watkins: May be ahead in No. 3 competition

Watkins is having a solid training camp and still seems to be the favorite to win the Eagles' No. 3 receiver role, according to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The Eagles don't need their third wideout to take on much target volume, but they want a player who can stretch defenses without making too many mistakes. The latter area proved problematic for Watkins last season, with his most memorable moments arguably being a lost fumble in the team's first loss of the season and then a dropped pass during the Super Bowl. The 25-year-old now faces a challenge from Olamide Zaccheaus, who is also a fast, small wideout and had a better 2022 in Atlanta (40-533-3 receiving line on 61 targets) than Watkins had in Philadelphia (34-354-3 on 51 targets). Watkins may be the incumbent and now the early leader at training camp, but Zaccheaus still has time this summer to make his push for the No. 3 spot.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Looking good for part-time role

Gainwell seems to have a spot on the Eagles roster, though he's one of five backs competing for roles this summer, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Gainwell, D'Andre Swift, Rashaad Penny, Boston Scott and Trey Sermon all have taken snaps with the first-string offense and also with the backups. Zangaro expects the first three to make the regular-season roster, while Scott and Sermon seem to be battling for the fourth and final spot. Gainwell isn't the biggest or fastest of the bunch, nor the most skilled receiver, but he has a good command of head coach Nick Sirianni's offense and hopes to make an impression this summer with improved pass blocking. As much as Swift and Penny remain more likely to put up start-worthy fantasy stats, it won't come as any surprise if Gainwell also has a role in the Week 1 game plan, which would make it that much harder for his backfield mates to put up big numbers.

  • Eagles' Boston Scott: May not be roster lock

Scott is one of five running backs getting first-team reps for Philadelphia this summer, making his future with the team uncertain, Reuben Frank of NBC Sports reports.

The longtime Eagles backup has been rotating with D'Andre Swift, Rashaad Penny, Kenneth Gainwell and Trey Sermon. It's Sermon who might pose a problem for Scott, as the former has reportedly stood out as one of the pleasant surprises of Eagles camp. Of course, injuries could still thin the group out before Week 1, and Scott has probably done enough the past few years to land on his feet with another team if the Eagles eventually cut him.
