  • Commanders' David Bada: Lands on injured reserve

Bada (tricep) was placed on IR by the Commanders on Thursday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.

The defensive tackle suffered a torn tricep during practice Wednesday. Bada spent the past three seasons on Washington's practice squad and has two career tackles. IR rules prevent a player from returning this season if he's put on the list before cut-down day, so the fourth-year pro would need to get waived or reach an injury settlement to come back in 2023.

  • Commanders' David Bada: Sidelined by injury

Bada suffered a torn triceps during practice Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Bada will continue to be evaluated, but if he did indeed suffer a torn triceps, he's likely looking at an extended amount of time out of action. He'll now turn his focus to getting healthy.

  • Commanders' Jacoby Brissett: Has confidence of coach

Coach Ron Rivera cautioned reporters Tuesday that they shouldn't "sleep on" Brissett, who has done a "nice job" at training camp, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Rivera said back in June that Brissett was in the running for the starting job, even though Sam Howell had been getting all the first-team reps in spring practices. Howell is still dominating those reps during training camp, but at the very least Rivera is making it clear he's confident in his backup, which makes sense given that Brissett's track record places him among the better No. 2 QBs in the league. That reality combined with Howell's lack of experience gives Brissett a decent chance to make starts at some point this season even if Howell seems to have the Week 1 starting assignment all but locked up.

  • Commanders' Saahdiq Charles: Dealing with injury

Charles (calf) is not participating in team drills Wednesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Charles' injury details are unknown, and it's unclear if he's doing individual work or entirely unable to practice. The 24-year-old is expected to start at left guard, so the quicker he can heal up, the better for Washington.

  • Commanders' Derrick Gore: Finds new home

Gore signed with the Commanders on Monday.

Gore was waived by the Saints in May after spending part of the season on their practice squad in 2022. The 28-year-old only saw game action in 2021, when he took 51 carries for 256 yards and two touchdowns with Kansas City. He'll work to earn a depth role in Washington's backfield, presumably behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson.
