Smoot is still recovering from a partially torn Achilles tendon suffered last December. However, with Jacksonville willing to sign him to a one-year $6.25 million deal Friday, and his placement on the active, not reserve, PUP list, he's likely to be ready sooner than later. Smoot (Achilles) and the Jaguars agreed on a one-year, $6.25 million contract Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
With Smoot gearing up to visit the Ravens in the near future, Jacksonville stepped up and signed the defensive end to a new deal to keep him in town. The 28-year-old is still recovering from the torn right Achilles tendon he suffered in December, but when he's healthy, Smoot will be returning to the defensive unit in which he accumulated 21 tackles, including five sacks, in 2022.

Smoot suffered a torn Achilles in Thursday's victory over the Jets, but Monday's move to IR officially brings his season to an end. The 27-year-old will finish his 2022 campaign with 21 tackles, including five sacks, while also recording two pass deflections, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 15 contests. In his absence, Arden Key and Corey Peters will likely see an increase in usage moving forward.
