  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: On track for clearance soon

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) is on track to be cleared for contact by Aug. 20, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

While the significance of the mentioned date is unclear, it would give Pacheco an 18-day grace period before the Chiefs open the regular season against Detroit on Sept. 7. In other words, he'll have plenty of time to ramp up and get in game shape for Week 1 if he does in fact gain clearance for contact on or before Aug. 20. In the meantime, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon have been getting most of the first-team reps at training camp, while undrafted rookie Deneric Price has become the subject of summer hype despite mostly working with the backups. Pacheco still projects as the lead runner of the group on the heels of his solid rookie season, but it could end up being a three- or four-man committee rather than the two-way Pacheco/McKinnon split from the latter portion of last season. Pacheco's shoulder is said to be his lone health concern at this point, while he's made a full recovery from offseason hand surgery.

  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Increasing practice reps

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) sported a non-contact jersey at Wednesday's practice but has been expanding his play count in 7-on-7 drills, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.

The fact that Pacheco is already starting to expand his reps early in training camp is a good sign that he'll be cleared before the start of the regular season. The running back is working his way back from offseason surgeries to repair a broken hand and torn labrum. He's likely to play a prominent role once healthy, but it wouldn't be surprising if Pacheco sits out most or all of the preseason.

  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: To be 100 percent for Week 1

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) said Thursday he will "absolutely" be 100 percent for Week 1 versus the Lions, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Pacheco continues to practice in a yellow non-contact jersey as he works his way back from offseason surgeries to address a broken hand and a torn labrum, but it looks like he has no real concerns about his regular-season availability. Barring any setbacks in his recovery, Pacheco looks to be facing a real opportunity to cement himself as the top man in Kansas City's backfield, which also houses Jerick McKinnon, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, La'Mical Perine and Deneric Prince. Coach Andy Reid previously said Pacheco could be a candidate to start training camp on the PUP list, so his participation level still warrants monitoring.

  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: At practice Wednesday

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) participated in Wednesday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, Pacheco appeared to be a full participant in the session, though the running back was wearing a yellow (non-contact) jersey. Still, Pacheco's presence on the field Wednesday bodes well for both his training camp status and regular-season availability. The second-year player underwent surgeries in the offseason to address a broken hand and a torn labrum.

  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Gets in work Wednesday

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) worked out with Kansas City's quarterbacks and rookies Wednesday, Jesse Newell of The Kansas City Star reports.

Pacheco was on the field one day after head coach Andy Reid suggested that the second-year running back was a candidate to start training camp on the PUP list. According to Newell, Pacheco, who led the Chiefs with 830 rushing yards as a rookie, didn't mix into 7-on-7 drills and participated in much of Wednesday's session while sporting a yellow non-contact jersey. Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com notes that the team will limit Pacheco early on in training camp, but barring any setbacks, the 24-year-old will have an opportunity this summer to cement his status as the top option in a Kansas City backfield that also includes Jerick McKinnon, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, La'Mical Perine and Deneric Prince.

  • Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Uncertain for training camp

Coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that Kansas City will soon decide whether Pacheco (hand) will start training camp on an injured list, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

The team might place Pacheco on the PUP list, which doesn't mean much until the regular season other than confirming he's not ready to practice. The second-year running back had multiple surgeries this offseason after playing through a broken hand and torn labrum in the Super Bowl win over Philadelphia in February. Kansas City didn't add much to its backfield this spring -- undrafted rookie Deneric Prince is the only new face -- and seemingly expects Pacheco to be ready for Week 1 even if he misses the start of training camp.
