Steelers' Damontae Kazee: In walking boot
Kazee (ankle) said Sunday that the boot on his left foot is a precautionary measure to make sure he's healthy for Week 1, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Kazee also noted that the injury itself is a "slightly sprained" left ankle that he twisted a bit during Saturday's practice. Once back to full health, he'll compete with Keanu Neal for the starting strong safety role beside free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Steelers' Damontae Kazee: Back to Steelers on two-year deal
The Steelers re-signed Kazee to a two-year contract Tuesday, ESPN's Brooke Pryor reports.
Kazee inked a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason but missed the first eight games of the year on injured reserve with an arm issue. If Pittsburgh can't re-sign Terrell Edmunds in free agency, Kazee makes sense as a replacement next to Minkah Fitzpatrick. Kazee has made 53 career starts across six seasons with three different teams.

Kazee was placed on the 53-man roster Thursday after spending the entire season thus far on IR, while he recovered from a fractured arm. With Minkah Fitzpatrick (appendix) out, Kazee will immediately step into a prominent role in the Steelers secondary.

The Steelers restored Kazee (arm) to the active roster Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Kazee is set to play for the first time this season heading into Sunday's game against the Saints. The 29-year-old fractured his forearm during the preseason and opened the 2022 campaign on injured reserve. Kazee recorded 52 tackles, four passes defended, two interceptions and two forced fumbles over 17 regular-season games with Dallas last year, so he could play a prominent reserve role behind starting safeties Terrell Edmunds and Minkah Fitzpatrick for the final nine weeks of the season.

Kazee (arm) said Monday he expects to be activated from Pittsburgh's injured reserve list before Thursday ahead of a Week 10 matchup versus New Orleans, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Kazee said he broke his forearm during the preseason and had nine screws and a plate put in to repair it, but it now appears he could return to play his first snaps of the regular season Sunday. Kazee underwent surgery on his left arm after sustaining an injury during Pittsburgh's preseason finale, and he was expected to sit out until at least Week 6 while recovering on IR. Now, the veteran safety will have a 21-day window to practice and be activated to the Steelers' 53-man roster, or else he'll revert to season-ending IR. Kazee tallied 52 tackles, four passes defended, two interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles over 17 contests with Dallas last year, and he could play a prominent defensive role for the Steelers when healthy.

Kazee (arm) finished serving a three-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Kazee served all three games of his suspension while on the Steelers' injured reserve with a wrist injury suffered in late August, which was expected to keep him sidelined until at least Week 6. The 29-year-old safety recorded 52 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions while playing 850 defensive snaps over 17 games with Dallas last season. With starting strong safety Terrell Edmunds still in concussion protocol after sitting out Week 5, Kazee could quickly step into a prominent role in the Steelers' secondary when healthy again.

Steelers' Damontae Kazee: Suspended three games
Kazee has been suspended three games for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Per the report, Kazee, who had been on IR with a wrist injury that he sustained in the Steelers' final preseason game, will be able to serve his suspension while on IR. In any case, the earliest the safety can return to action is in Week 6, though once his suspension is complete, it remains to be seen if he'll be healthy enough to come off IR at that juncture.

Kazee (arm) is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks while recovering from left arm surgery, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
The Steelers officially placed Kazee on injured reserve Thursday, but he appears primed to miss more than the requisite four games. That the 2017 fifth-rounder will be able to return this season is good news for the Steelers, but to begin the year, a replacement will need to be found alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick. Terrell Edmunds seems the likeliest candidate for the time being.
